There are few words for death as beautiful as the one in Slovenian — smrt. While it is the opening word of the address to the listener from the concert this disc preserves, my attempt at translating it has proved rather futile. Considering everything else that enveloped this performance, I am somewhat sceptical as to whether this sound can survive out of context at all. It emerged from very precise and specific circumstances: of space, time, people. It calls for an explanation, yet it needs none, it avoids one, and it is threatened by one. The hope, however, is that it may live on its own; many sounds do, the listener is the context. Therefore I urge you to hear it as it is. As a sincere attempt at performance, at purely expressing one’s inner reality through sounds; stumbling, falling, struggling, searching, trying, succeeding, believing, fearing — all of it is there, as are all the mistakes. The recording is uncut, I have not searched for substance beyond what happened: all there is is entailed in the sound. It is a beginning of what one might call a creative process, but a prenatal beginning at that — raising a question whether there is within us any capacity for a creative process at all.
