Album Žepi / Pockets prinaša glasbo bobnarja in tolkalca Zlatka Kaučiča in saksofonista in elektrofonika Boštjana Simona. Oba sta izjemno dejavna in plodovita glasbenika tako na domači kot mednarodni sceni, vešča ne le v jazzovskih govoricah, temveč tudi v improvizaciji in eksperimentu. Čeprav sta že sodelovala oziroma igrala v istih zasedbah (Cerkno Jubileum Orchestra, Arkos Quintet), je ta album njun prvi diskografski izdelek, ki sta ga posnela kot duo. Glasbenika se prepuščata ustvarjanju »žepov«, kot sta poimenovala niz ekspresionističnih glasbenih skic oziroma mini improvizacij ter tako tudi naslovila album. Pri snemanju sta se zmenila, da ne bosta razvijala improvizacij v daljše pomenske sklope, pač pa sta ostala pri ekspozicijah zvočnih idej. Te bliskovite, kratke in jedrnate ideje odlikuje vsakič predrugačen pristop k zvoku. Enkrat so v ospredju rahlo popačeni zvoki, ki se pnejo od upočasnjenega gibanja do veselega brbotanja in prelivanja, drugič sta glasbenika bolj neposredna in energična, prav vseh petnajst zvočnih avanturističnih miniatur pa krasi izjemna interakcija in doživeta izvedba.

Album Žepi / Pockets features the music of drummer and percussionist Zlatko Kaučič and saxophonist and electronic musician Boštjan Simon. Both are extremely active and prolific musicians on the Slovenian and international scene, skilled not only in jazz idioms, but also in improvisation and experimentation. Although they have already collaborated or played in the same ensembles (Cerkno Jubileum Orchestra, Arkos Quintet), this album is their first discographic product recorded as a duo. The two musicians indulge in the creation of “pockets”, as they call a series of expressionist musical sketches or mini improvisations. During the recording, they decided not to develop improvisations into longer expressionistic clusters, but rather stayed with expositions of sound ideas. These lightning-fast, short and concise ideas are characterized by a different approach to sound each time. At one time, slightly distorted sounds are in the foreground, rising from slow motion to happy bubbling and overflowing, at another time, the two musicians are more direct and energetic, all fifteen sound adventure miniatures are characterized by an exceptional interaction and deeply felt performance.

I remember seeing Bloodcount play at Leeds Irish Centre about this time…the band very nearly outnumbered the audience… but it was one of the best gigs (out of very many) I ever saw and the band were terrific…on fire…25 years ago!! Who says you can’t time travel? This rediscovered recording took me right back…what a find! Thanks Tim…Love & Respect. Marc Ducret? My wife remembered his “scary sunglasses”… John Cratchley
